New Release 1.5.4

This release addresses a couple of user requests and fixes some issues.

Separate color setting for chorus

Following a user request, LivePrompter now gives you a separate color setting for chorus sections. These need to be marked with start_of_chorus / end_of_chorus (or soc / eoc). If you don’t set a specific color, LivePrompter will initially populate this color with your text color, so you shouldn’t notice a change if you don’t use this setting.

Automatic section titles for chorus, verse and bridge

To increase compatibility with ChordPro files from the internet and from Guitar Pro converters, LivePrompter can now generate automatic section titles whenever it encounters start_of_chorus, start_of_verse, or start_of_bridge tags in your song files. This is an on/off setting in “Song Display”, and is turned off by default to avoid any nasty surprises.

You can also create specific section titles using this feature, for example use {start_of_chorus: Chorus 1} to generate the section title “Chorus 1”. If no specific titles are given, the generic “Chorus”, “Verse”, and “Bridge” are created.

Keyboard setting to exit song page

There is now a new setting in Settings — Keyboard. You can now assign a key to exit the song page and go back to the home page. This has been requested by some users to make keyboard navigation easier.

There will be a more comprehensive re-work later this year (at least that’s the plan) that will focus on “touch-less” control of LivePrompter via keyboard or MIDI, but this will at least get you one step forward for keyboard control.

Configuration directory for desktop version moved outside user Documents folder

Since Microsoft is getting more and more pushy around having your files placed in OneDrive, this creates issues for users with multiple differing installations, since their LivePrompter settings will be synchronized across installations, whether they want it or not.

Therefore I have now moved the LivePrompter Data folder from the Users’ Documents folder to a “user settings” folder outside the scope of OneDrive and other cloud replication. On Windows, this is in the AppData folder, and on macOS, it is in the Library/Application Support folder. You can find the exact location of your data folder using the Diagnostics page and the File Diagnostics function.

On the first launch of the new build, LivePrompter will copy all relevant data to the new location and use that folder going forward. It does not delete the old folder in dhe Documents directory; you can do that yourself once you are sure that the new version runs as expected.

Fixes

Some smaller improvements and fixes were made:

  • A chord translation issue was fixed that caused wrong chords when transposing into the key of D# minor
  • I addressed some of the “wobbliness” between lines at slow scroll speeds that was caused by rounding issues. Looks a bit more consistent now; not yet perfect, but to my eyes definitely better…
  • I fixed an issue that caused LivePrompter to hang during the sync process when an incorrect folder path was entered in a source
  • Issues with the internet connection not being found during the first sync should be fixed now
  • I moved the timing of automatic startup sync, so that it starts after the profile selection screen is closed. Makes for a better workflow – you don’t have to wait for the sync to be finished before you can select the profile.

The new version should become available via Play Store / App Store and the Downloads page over the next couple of days. Enjoy!
